WOMMA Announces 2017 WOMM Hall of Fame Inductees and WOMMY Awards Finalists

Honoring excellence in word of mouth, social media and influencer marketing

WOMMA is proud to induct author/speaker Jay Baer, Traveler’s John Bell, PEMCO’s Rod Brooks and author/speaker Sally Hogshead into the Word of Mouth Marketing (WOMM) Hall of Fame.

The WOMM Hall of Fame celebrates the true spirit and power of word of mouth marketing and honors those who are leaders, pioneers, innovators, mentors and collaborators who have given considerable time, effort and energy to the industry.

Jay Baer is a Certified Speaking Professional, a renowned business strategist, and a New York Times best-selling author of five books. He is the founder of Convince & Convert, a strategy consulting firm that helps prominent companies gain and keep more customers through the smart intersection of technology, social media, and customer service. Jay’s Convince & Convert Media division runs the world’s #1 content marketing blog, multiple podcasts, and many other education resources for business owners and executives. Jay is also the host of the popular Social Pros podcast, named the best marketing podcast in the 2015 Content Marketing Awards.

John Bell leads the Enterprise Digital Marketing team at Travelers, putting data-driven content, digital marketing and social engagement at the heart of marketing. John joined Travelers after 13 years at Ogilvy & Mather where he founded Social@Ogilvy, a global social and digital marketing practice. John has designed and executed campaigns to drive demand in commercial insurance as well as personal insurance including the high performing #HarnessRisk and #ThinkSafe content marketing programs. He has deployed social selling programs to enable the insurance sales channel to leverage new marketing practices to engage the connected customer. John graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts.

Rod Brooks tells people he’s a marketer to the core. Rod likes to think that he “gets it,” but he stresses that continuous learning and exploration is one of the keys to whatever success he’s had. Rod was a pioneer of word of mouth marketing before he knew the discipline had a name. He joined PEMCO in 1999 with a BHAG (big hairy audacious goal) that may have surprised traditional marketers on the team. Most recently, Forbes magazine listed Rod among the 50 most influential CMOs on Social Media, and he was recognized by The Science of Digital Marketing as 2016’s most influential online marketer. Rod has been active in the Word of Mouth Marketing Association since 2007 and was elected to its board of directors and executive committee in 2008, serving as president in 2011.

Sally Hogshead
says growing up with the last name Hogshead would give anyone a fascinating point of view on life. At age 24, she moved to New York City to begin a career in advertising and became the most award-winning copywriter in the U.S. She founded her first ad agency at age 27, and her work has hung in the Smithsonian Museum of American History. Sally developed The Fascination Advantage® — the first algorithm to measure personal brands.  Based on her research with the science of fascination, Sally has published two New York Times bestsellers: “How the World Sees You” and “Fascinate.” She is one of only 172 living members of the Speaker Hall of Fame®, the global speaking industry’s highest award for professional excellence.

“We are excited to honor Jay, John, Rod and Sally as the newest inductees to the WOMM Hall of Fame. Each has made a significant contribution to the word of mouth marketing industry.  They have helped shape our industry and continue to inspire future marketers, ” says Harvey Morris, Executive Vice President of WOMMA.

These influential marketers will be honored in an induction ceremony during WOMMA’s annual WOMMY Awards Program on April 26, 2017, at the 2017 WOMMA Summit in New York City.
